How to Eat Healthy for Less

In a world where processed food has become so ‘normalised’, it’s hard to remember that it’s

actually still quite a new concept. For many generations before us, humans were eating

fresh food straight from nature.

Whenever I speak of ‘healthy’ food it is not about aiming for

weight loss or a perfect body that never gets sick, what I am speaking to is more fresh food with less processed foods and additives. When was the last time you went to the store and brought only the ‘basics’ without any extra

frills?

Most of us will have grabbed some biscuits, or ice cream or processed meat because we have become accustomed to it. And don’t get me started on the ridiculous amount of flavoured beverages on the market now … why have we fallen so in love with these?

I think it maybe started with the taste but has now become habit and for the younger generations it is simply what they know to be food whether it is or not.

Our aim with Cheap Healthy Meal Plans is to eat fresh and eat for less.

Did you know that it’s pretty much as simple as cutting out the ‘junk’!

Easier said than done though.

If you went back a few decades and only had the butcher, the fruit and veg store and the general store with flours, sugar etc. – how do you think you would shop?
I imagine differently to now.

But the thing is, that those shops still exist today, and we can go back to the simple and fresh ways if eating and both our wallets and our bodies will thank us for it.

So many health issues are related to bad digestion, which is usually a side effect of a

processed diet and/or overuse of medications. If you can reduce both of the causes, then

you allow your digestion to recover which then has a direct effect on the other body systems.

If you are a supermarket shopper, and you focus simply on the healthy and fresh foods, you find that they are the cheaper items in the store. They are there to draw you in with the hope that you will then grab the more processed food where they can earn more money.

If you just stick to what you know to be wholesome foods, then you may reduce the profit of the big supermarkets, but your own bank balance will stay bigger for a change.

There has been a lot of talk lately in Australia about how the supermarkets are price gouging, what if you no longer played their game?

A lot of the changes have occurred with

processed foods, yet again, things like chips, chocolate, frozen fish and convenience meals.

You do not need to purchase these as part of your meal plan. Maybe on occasion as a treat, but they don’t need to be a regular part of your meal planning.

Fresh fruits and vegetables as the base of the meals, although prices have increased a little, are still going to be cheaper than other foods.

If we can remember that this is fuel for our body and we need to be feeding it ‘premium’

foods to stay at our optimum health level, then hopefully you will naturally start saving money.

Just for a moment, imagine buying whole grain cereal/porridge, eggs or yoghurt for

breakfast. With a fruit snack for morning tea and maybe some nuts.

Then for lunch a salad or a soup with afternoon tea some home cooked baking treats. Dinner finishes the day with meat, rice/pasta and vegetables with a sweet fruit and home made custard to complete your day.

How does that feel?

You are still experiencing many different flavours and your body is receiving the nutrients it needs whilst you spend less money. It’s a win-win-win. Have a go and try it this week.
